Your Metabolic GPS

Health and Fitness Influencers Instagram their asses off and TikTok their way to the moon and back trying to tell you what the best exercise for this or that is. The simple fact is that what type of curl to do to get that extra peak on your bicep is probably relevant to .001% of social media scrollers. Most people just want to lose some fat–pure and simple. But now we’re on the precipice of falling into the Mariana Trench of social media dieting advice. Again–worth a fraction of a percent for the average person. So how do we simplify things? Do you have to live a life of deprivation and countless hours in the gym? No. There are basic rules that are easy to follow and will have a huge impact on your weight and health.

First, let’s take a simplified look at the mechanics of the body’s metabolism. When you eat, some aspect of the meal is likely to spike your blood sugar a bit.  Sometimes what you eat will spike your blood sugar a lot.  That’s where insulin comes in. Basically, when there is too much sugar in your blood, insulin steps in and says, “This is way more energy than you can use right now.  I’m gonna go ahead and store this as fat.” How do we stop insulin from screwing us over like this?

We use the best tool in your toolbox: Exercise. Exercise is your metabolic GPS system. It supersedes insulin’s evil plans and shows the way to use that extra blood sugar to fuel your body’s best friend: Muscle.  “So does that mean we have to hit the gym after every meal?” No, no, no dear Coffee Talkers–fear not.

Research has shown that just a 10-minute walk can level out blood sugar levels. This is the simplest biohack you will ever encounter.  And who can’t walk for 10 minutes? It’s just about the timing.  Eat, walk. Walking also aids in digestion, and gets your plumbing working. Yes–we mean helps you poop! And who doesn’t need help pooping? Ok, that didn’t come out right.  But you know what we mean.

So, if you want to lose some fat without living a life of deprivation and executing insane workouts, just get walking.  After every meal. Or snack! Basically, whenever you put something in your mouth.  That is food.

Until next time
