The Voice You Hear in Your Head Is Not You!

Within all of us, there exists a persistent inner voice that often questions, criticizes, and doubts. It whispers fears and convinces us to play small, masquerading as our true thoughts and identity. However, this voice is not you—it is a construct, born of fear and self-preservation, designed to resist change and growth.

Recognizing that the voice in your head isn’t you can be a very unsettling notion for most people. For most people, the inner voice is their oldest and best friend—a buddy that has been on their side and protecting them since childhood. But it’s not you—the inner voice you hear is a coping mechanism known as your ego, whose primary function is to protect you in the short run, and it will tell you anything to protect you and your feelings.

This inner voice thrives on maintaining the status quo. It resists discomfort, challenges, and the unknown by keeping you grounded in familiar patterns. It may sound like reason or logic, offering excuses or justifications for inaction, but in reality, it is a barrier to your growth. The more power you give it, the more it takes control over your decisions and dreams.

The key to overcoming this deceptive force lies in awareness. By separating yourself from the voice, you begin to see it for what it truly is—a source of resistance, not a reflection of your true self. Understanding this creates a crucial shift in perspective, allowing you to observe the voice rather than be controlled by it. When you stop identifying with it, you reclaim your autonomy and the ability to choose your own path.

From awareness comes the courage to act. The voice relies on fear to hold you back, but taking even small steps forward diminishes its grip. With each action—whether pursuing a passion, facing a challenge, or starting something new—you prove that its influence is not absolute. In doing so, you build momentum and confidence, weakening the voice’s ability to dictate your actions.

Over time, this process becomes a journey of self-discovery. The more you challenge the inner voice, the more you uncover your authentic self—a self that is capable, courageous, and full of potential. The voice loses its power when you recognize that it is not you—it is merely a shadow, fading as you step into the light of your own strength and aspirations.

Ultimately, the inner voice is not an insurmountable adversary—it is an opportunity for growth. Each time you confront and overcome its whispers, you take a step closer to your true self.

So, the next time it speaks, pause, smile, pity it, and move forward anyway—because the voice you hear in your head is not you, and you are so much more than it could ever define.

Until next time,

Scott and Lennart
